So, based on the last manga chapter (1023) it has been revealed that Zoro is probably connected to wano. Some people don’t like the idea that he comes from an extremely strong lineage and that the reason behind his monstrous strength is just bloodline, rather that his efforts and resolve during the whole series.

Oden died 20 years before the current story, Zoro is 21, allowing him to have born in Wano. There is nothing explicitly connecting him to Ushimaru Shimotsuki, but there is a lot of narrative threads that could pair the two together.
