Shrek didn't exist, which means that Fiona was always a human (unless at night when the curse took place) when she was imprisoned in the castle. Fiona's discussion with Donkey in Shrek 1 strongly indicates that her ogre form was the result of the curse, rather than her natural state: FIONA: When I was a girl, a witch cast a spell on me.

However, I am not familiar with the story of Fiona - a woman imprisoned in a dragon-guarded castle who is cursed to transform into an ogre every night, and will only settle on a form after true love's first kiss.

The potion clearly made you beautiful by the standards of others. It's unlikely the Fairy Godmother would make a potion that would turn you into your definition of beauty ...

Nov 14, 2014 · Also in Shrek 2 Prince Charming came back to Far Far Away AFTER Shrek and Fiona visited/lived with the king and queen, and that's when Fairy Godmother, Lillian and Harold found out that the Prince was a little too late to rescue her and that Shrek was the outcome since he is the first to rescue her.

There is nothing within the Shrek universe to indicate that "true love" can be anything other than romantic love. Queen Lillian may have well kissed Fiona (and what mother doesn't kiss her daughter goodnight), but it will not have worked.
