What is a Refracting Telescope? - The Nine Planets
Nov 5, 2019 · The magnification of a telescope or any optical instrument is how much bigger the image is compared with the object. The magnification of a refracting telescope is equal to the focal length of the objective divided by the focal length of the eyepiece. e.g. a refracting telescope has an objective of focal length 70cm and eyepiece 5cm.

What is better a reflector telescope or a refractor telescope?
Nov 29, 2021 · By comparison a $200 refractor will have a small aperture, cheap glass and probably a wobbly useless mount and will be basically a hobby-killer. But if you've got $2000 to drop, well now you're in the range of big aperture refractors with great lenses on sturdy mounts.

Refractor vs. Reflector : r/telescopes - Reddit
Aug 3, 2015 · Overall, a 8" is a very nice telescope for both deep-sky and planets! It will fit in almost any car (worst case: tube on the back seat). For imaging, you will need a very rigid mount, e.g. at least a CG-4/Astroview/NEQ-3 with a motor and a small telescope or just camera+lens...
Dobsonian vs. Refractor, what to buy? : r/telescopes - Reddit
Jul 16, 2014 · For astrophotography, because we are taking long exposures, aperture is less important. Although an 80mm refractor may not gather as much light as a 10" dobsonian, we can just set the exposure for a longer duration and still pull in more light. Additionally, a good refractor (especially an APO refractor) can give clearer images than a dobsonian.
For anyone posting "What telescope should I get?" start here
Telescope types and maintenance. A refractor usually provides the best image for its aperture, but they're expensive, inexpensive ones have a fair amount of chromatic aberration thanks to the two-lens achromatic design they use (more expensive scopes use exotic glass and/or extra lenses to deliver good color correction), and they're seldom ...
Advanced VX 6" Refractor Telescope - Thoughts? : r/telescopes
Oct 4, 2015 · You'd need to get a larger and beefier mount if you plan on doing precise long-exposure stuff with the C6-R. For imaging, the AVX is best suited for small APO refractors and similarly weighted scopes. I use the refractor solely for non-imaging, and it excels at that (I've even been able to observe 14.2 magnitude quasars in it!).
Good refractor telescopes? : r/telescopes - Reddit
Apr 18, 2021 · Im looking for a good refractor telescope. I got a celestron powerseeker 127eq and i am quite disappointed with the performance. I would get a dobsonian but I travel around alot and it would just become inconvenient. Im staying away from newtonians for a bit lol. Price range would be under £250. Please help🔭👌
