Dec 28, 2024 · A Shetland is a Shetland; a Miniature Horse would be a mini, to me at least, and then there's different type/breed crosses to produce something small and of course there's dwarfism in these breeds. However labels mini and miniature horse is often used to describe something small in some areas. I hear it in the UK and applied to Shetlands.

Aug 9, 2011 · About 2 days ago, I found my miniature horse laying down on the ground. This is uncharacteristic of him, as he is usually the first one to come running up to me for attention! Because he is never down, the first thought that ran through my head was COLIC. So my instinct was to get him standing up, and walking around.

Smaller horses just eat a tad less, but they need just as much care and dedication as a regular size horse would. There is still lesson costs with this horse, which wouldn't cost less because the horse is smaller. Ferrier costs, tack, fencing, food, shelter.

Sep 21, 2010 · A miniature horse is also built differently than a pony. Ideally, a mini is a scaled-down version of a horse, with a slimmer build than a pony, and longer legs for its size. The head is also in proportion to the body, as are the feet. Also, a miniature horse does not have the heavy bone often associated with pony breeds.

Mar 31, 2021 · I don't believe the size of your backyard is prohibitive to keeping minis. Horses, regardless of size, need free movement/lots of exercise, but a)they often don't get it in a big paddock either & b) people keep even big horses in boxes or small yards.

Mar 23, 2011 · So while MOST dogs can give birth fine alone, Mini's are more like the English Bulldogs of the horse world (although nowhere near as bad, just an example). So while technically, there has been no evidence to support that a smaller mare is harmed by breeding to a larger stallion, you do have to consider that "smaller" likely still means at LEAST ...

Apr 21, 2013 · I have two miniature horse, a mare and a gelding. They are bigger than most minis, but still minis. I knew them for a long time before I got them. When they were at the campground, right before they were sold (Not to me.), the girl put a full sized horse in with them.
