Messiah comes from the Hebrew word, Mashiach, meaning “the anointed one,” or “the chosen one.” In Old Testament times, prophets, priests, and kings were anointed by oil when they were set apart for these positions of responsibility.

The Hebrew word meaning the same thing is Mashiach, or as we know it—Messiah. So Christ is really more a title than it is a name, although the Bible uses it both ways. For example, the Bible often refers to Jesus by name as “Jesus Christ,” just as we do in modern usage (see Matthew 1:1, 18; Mark 1:1; John 1:17; 17:3; Acts 3:6; Romans 3:24 ...

The second coming is soon. In fact, Jesus promised His disciples that He would come again. John 14:1-3 says, “Let not your heart be troubled...In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you.

It no doubt would be of interest to some that Jews For Jesus, also known as Messianic Jews, printed a book telling how a number of Jews came to believe in Jesus as the Messiah. Four of those folks described how the prophecy of Daniel 9:24-27 played an important role in convincing them that Jesus was the Messiah. He became the Lord of their lives.

Essentially, Pilate was asking the Jewish leaders to choose between Jesus Barabbas or Jesus who is called the Messiah. According to Matthew 1:21, the name Jesus means “savior”. Thus, Jesus Barabbas was trying to be the savior of the Jews by taking part in a physical rebellion against the Roman authorities.

John also baptized people who demonstrated repentance of their sins and wished to join the ranks of those awaiting the Messiah’s appearance . In this way, his preaching and baptizing prepared the way of the Lord. His most noticeable and memorable baptism is when John baptized Jesus Himself, the Messiah. (See Matthew 3:13-17.)

The names of the twelve disciples of Jesus are Simon Peter, Andrew, James (the son of Zebedee), John, Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew, James (the son of Alphaeus), Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot.

Luke’s desire was to prove to Theophilus the truth of Jesus the Messiah’s life, death and resurrection. The name Theophilus appears in only two places in the Bible, Luke 1:1-4 and Acts 1:1-3. Luke wrote these two books around 61-63 AD which is during the time that the Apostle Paul was a prisoner in Rome and Luke was with him.
