The 2010 Series and other old series banknotes remain legal tender and will continue to circulate along with the 2018 Series.

In 2012, Hong Kong's Bank of China issued a new 100-dollar note to commemorate the bank's 100th anniversary. Although legal tender, the notes aren't intended for circulation. 1,100,000 notes were sold as numismatic products packaged in a folder for HK$150.
