Mar 9, 2024 · The hike to Castle Hill lookout begins not far from the city itself. While you can drive nearly all the way up, the best way to reach the viewpoint is by taking the windy goat track (pink markers, roughly 860 meters one-way).

Apart from being an iconic centrepiece for the city and a lookout for spectacular scenic views, Castle Hill has a significant history. The Hill's vantage was used by visiting American soldiers during World War II.

We walked up the Goat Track to the top. A lot of steps, but very well made of stone and timber/gravel. The road up is also a walk track and much easier grade, but of course you can drive up. The road is shared with walkers and cyclists, but everyone seems curious and cautious.
