  1. Are mini donkeys in danger of coyotes? - BackYardHerds

Jun 24, 2018 · One miniature horse or donkey is most likely more than a match for a single dog or coyote, but when faced with a pack using pack tactics, things can be very different. On other forums, I have seen posts about miniature horses or donkeys that got attacked by dogs or coyotes (which included some pretty graphic pictures), but as I recall, they ...

  2. Donkey vs. Llama for guarding livestock??? - BackYard Chickens

Apr 5, 2008 · I have a donkey and he does nothing. Just a cute pet is all. I got him for that reason but he sill only chase a coyote if he wants to play, if he is eating or sleeping he watches them go by. Hubby shot a coyote about 5 yards from him and he never even flinched or went to investigate. I have 2 Maremmas protecting my flock and highly recommend them.

  3. Donkey vs. Llama for guarding livestock??? - BackYard Chickens

Nov 2, 2008 · The other eleven will sound an alert call but will NOT go toward the coyote. If you have a true guard llama you will have a great defense against predators. However, a pack of dogs or cougar or bear can defeat a llama so in those cases a couple of good guard dogs (Anatolian Shepherd, Pyrs, etc.) would be far better to use as a livestock guardian.

  6. donkeys for coyote control?? - BackYard Chickens

May 28, 2009 · I've got a guard jenny and she's great at protecting 'her' herd from canine intruders. Adopted her from the Bureau of Land Management. The BLM adopt out wild mustangs and burros every year. However, I've heard that jacks (male vs female) can become very aggressive towards smaller livestock (calves, goats, etc).

  7. Minature Donkey a protector? - BackYard Chickens

Dec 19, 2011 · I have read, however, that a mini donkey is not really big enough to be effective against a large coyote or dog. As our cow is growing her horns, I figure between the two of them, they will be a force to be reckoned with and unless the coyote/stray dog is really hungry, they will try to find an easier meal elsewhere.

  8. DONKEYS. Are they a good defense? - BackYard Chickens

Dec 31, 2007 · I watched a pair of donkey's protect a flock of chickens once. One of the donkey's went after the coyote and the other stood by the chickens to protect them. Its wise to get 2 donkeys.Sometimes, even in a small field, a single guard animal can be overwhelmed.

  9. donkey or goat? | BackYard Chickens - Learn How to Raise Chickens

Nov 9, 2012 · Donkeys do great as long as they have a "friend" but that friend does not have to be another donkey.Be careful with an adult donkey unless it was raised with dogs they might not like a dog. They are livestock guardians and naturally will chase away coyote and there is not much difference between a dog and a coyote.

  10. How To Protect Your Chickens and Birds Against Coyotes

Dec 18, 2018 · Coyotes travel and run in packs, so if you see one there are many more closes by. Donkeys are the natural enemies of coyotes. If a coyote smells or sees a donkey they will not come near. If you want to protect your chickens from coyotes, you may have a donkey guard; either a gelded male or a female is your best option.
