Like a shaken-up snow globe, thick, fluffy flakes began blanketing metro Atlanta on Friday morning. As evening approached, the snow had long since stopped, but the threat of ice was increasing. It was a winter wonderland in places and an icy obstacle course in others.

Sleet is starting to fall in western parts of metro Atlanta early Friday morning as a winter storm bears down across North Georgia.
