The Peoria Police Department is asking the public for help locating a missing woman. According to Peoria police spokeswoman Semone Roth, Anifia Nelson, 24, was last seen on Sept. 7 near Monroe and Laveille Streets.

Police are investigating a double shooting that occurred Sunday afternoon in Central Peoria which they believe was a murder-suicide. At about 2:15 p.m. Sunday, officers were called to the 2200 block of North Flora Street to check the welfare of the people inside.

An 18-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy were released without charges, but the 16-year-old was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated assault on a police officer, unlawful possession of a handgun under the age of 21 and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

Roberto Vasquez and Andrew Connor graduated from PPD's process for elevating officers to the rank of sergeant, which includes a scored exam ranked and approved by the Peoria Fire and Police Commission before Police Chief Eric Echevarria makes the decision to promote.

Peoria police are investigating a series of burglaries on Valley businesses that occurred overnight on Thursday.
