X, the Elon Musk-owned social media site formerly known as Twitter, is suing Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison over a state law regulating the use of "deepfakes" to influence elections.

X Corp., the social media platform owned by Trump adviser Elon Musk, is challenging the constitutionality of a Minnesota ban on using deepfakes to influence elections and harm candidates, saying it violates First Amendment speech protections.

The law makes it a crime to share a deepfake within 90 days of an election intended to influence results or harm a candidate’s reputation.
