Britain's foreign minister David Lammy chaired a meeting of the government's emergency committee, known as COBR, on Friday to discuss the latest situation in Lebanon.

The Foreign Secretary has urged Britons to leave Lebanon amid escalating hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, warning the situation could "deteriorate rapidly".David Lammy expressed concern about “rising tensions and civilian casualties”.

The Government is preparing to airlift British citizens from Lebanon if tensions between Israel and Hezbollah descend into all-out war, The Telegraph can disclose. A defence source said the Government “stands prepared”  to evacuate stranded British nationals to safety on Friday as part of an operation being planned by the Foreign Office.
