Fire crews were able to stop the forward progress of a 3-acre brush fire in Poway — dubbed the Ted Williams Fire — that broke out just after 1 p.m. Monday near a hiking trail by the intersection of Ted Williams Pkwy and Pomerado Road, just behind the Poway Fire Department Station 3.

Fire crews battled a fast-moving brush fire on Monday afternoon in Poway in San Diego County and stopped the forward rate of spread. Officials and fire crews throughout the region have been on high alert in recent weeks as San Diego Gas & Electric is again enacting Public Safety Power Shutoffs to combat fire danger.

The fire was reported at Ted Williams Parkway at Pomerado Road early Monday afternoon.  People were being asked to evacuate in the area of Wilsey Way.

A brush fire ignited in Poway near homes but the Poway Fire department and other first responders had stopped the forward progress by 3 p.m.

The fire started around 1:17 p.m. in the vicinity of 14322 Pomerado Road, and by 1:45 p.m., it was 2 acres large.
