US President-elect Donald Trump escalated his remarks about making Canada part of the US during a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on Tuesday. And he reiterated that he intends to put “substantial” tariffs on goods from Canada and Mexico.

President-elect Trump has doubled down on his suggestion of a merged United States and Canada in the wake of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s decision to resign. Some have shrugged off

Trump said the US doesn’t need “anything” that Canada produces.

In response, Justin Trudeau, who is reportedly stepping down as Canada's prime minister, recently wrote on X: "There isn't a snowball's chance in hell that Canada would become part of the United States." Trump-ally Elon Musk then responded: "Girl, you're not the governor of Canada anymore, so doesn't matter what you say."

The president-elect said he'd use "economic force" to bring Canada into the US while also saying the Northern neighbor had nothing the US needs.
