Like a shaken-up snow globe, thick, fluffy flakes began blanketing metro Atlanta on Friday morning. As evening approached, the snow had long since stopped, but the threat of ice was increasing. It was a winter wonderland in places and an icy obstacle course in others.

In the noon update, GDOT spokesperson Natalie Dale says crews are out in full force to combat the impacts of the winter storm. She says millions of gallons of brine were applied to area roads. They have shifted to plowing routes,
