US President Donald Trump declared a national emergency at the US-Mexico border, and he plans to send his troops to help support immigration agents and restrict access to refugees and asylum seekers.

The president sought to end a program that allowed migrants fleeing Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela and Haiti to fly into the United States and remain in the country for up to two years.

Just hours before Trump was sworn into office on Monday, a migrant caravan of more than 2,000 people set off from deep in southern Mexico with the aim of crossing into the U.S.
