A fire that broke out in a merchandise stand outside the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday was extinguished before Manchester City hosted Club Brugge in their final Champions League group match, the English club said.

Two sides with an outside chance of automatic qualification face off at the Stade de Roudourou today as surprise package Brest host defending champions Real Madrid. Madrid are currently in 16th in the standings and will need a win today along with favours elsewhere if they are to avoid playing an extra two-legged tie in the knockout phase play-offs.

Manchester City must beat Club Brugge if they are to avoid an embarrassing Champions League exit. The top 24 teams in the league phase of the competition progress to the knockout stages, but City are currently outside that mark and seriously at risk of falling at the first hurdle.
