Dennis Allen couldn’t coach his way through a grueling run of injuries. Saints general manager Mickey Loomis cited an “abnormal” amount of injuries that led to a 2-7 start as the impetus for why the franchise fired its head coach Monday.

Dennis Allen was fired as head coach of the New Orleans Saints on Monday following the team's seventh consecutive loss. Allen was 18-25 with the Saints, who won their first two games this season in dominant fashion over the Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys before their current nosedive began.

Allen said Carr looked "rusty" in his return the starting lineup and the Saints were unable to close out despite leading 22-17 in the fourth quarter. And when the Saints needed to only to get into field goal range in the final 2:18 to win, they couldn't do it as Carr's fourth-and-4 pass to Cedrick Wilson was broken up.
