A historic Black church in Memphis, Tennessee, that was an organizing point for Martin Luther King's last civil rights campaign caught fire early on Monday morning and was badly damaged. The inside of the Clayborn Temple was gutted by flames,

King was drawn to Memphis in 1968 to support some 1,300 predominantly Black sanitation workers who went on strike to protest inhumane treatment.

Clayborn Temple was at the center of the civil rights movement and where a march that brought Martin Luther King Jr. to the city started.
