The Houston Astros have shut down right-hander Luis Garcia after he felt discomfort in his surgically repaired elbow.

Lance McCullers Jr. jogged from the Houston Astros’ dugout across the third-base line, toward the pitcher’s mound and a momentous step in his attempt to return to the majors. A baseball awaited him. McCullers scooped it up and threw his warmup pitches.

McCullers touched 93 mph on the stadium radar gun and threw his entire five-pitch arsenal. A couple of four-seam fastballs early in his outing gave way to a slew of changeups and two-seamers. McCullers is “not too worried” about his curveball or slider, the two spin weapons that catalyze his career 10 strikeouts per nine innings.
