Shortly after the University of Wyoming’s decision last month to forfeit a women’s volleyball game against San Jose State due to the presence of a reportedly transgender player, associate head coach Becky Baker expressed concerns that a closely-divided team’s preferences about whether to play were being usurped by outside political pressure,

San Jose State University volleyball co-captain Brooke Slusser spoke out amid the school’s transgender athlete controversy after the associate head coach was terminated.

It became a campaign issue for President-elect Donald Trump, who made apparent references to San Jose State’s volleyball team at a town hall event in Georgia last month. He vowed: “We stop it, we stop it, we absolutely stop it. You can’t have it. You just ban it. The president bans it. You just don’t let it happen.”
