Kenya's triple Olympic and world 1,500 metres champion Faith Kipyegon is to attempt the first women's, unofficial sub-four minute mile in a Nike "Breaking 4" project following the success of Eliud Kipchoge's sub-two hour marathon.

Nike on Wednesday announced its latest “moonshot”: to help Faith Kipyegon become the first woman to run a mile in under 4 minutes. It’s been more than 70 years since Roger Bannister became the first man to break the 4-minute barrier. In 2023, Kipyegon lowered the women’s world record to 4:07.
