The sounds of sobbing, prayers and anguish echoed through the departures hall of an airport in southwestern South Korea on Monday as families of the victims killed when a passenger jet crash-landed over the weekend waited for their loved ones to be identified.

A Jeju Air flight drove off the runway in South Korea and collided with a fence, leaving dozens of passengers dead, the Yonhap News Agency reported.

The control tower at Muan International Airport warned the Jeju Air plane of a potential bird strike minutes before the crash. Two people were rescued.

Fog is continuing to disrupt flights at Gatwick Airport with restrictions imposed to maintain safety. On what is expected to be the airport's busiest day of the Christmas period, it said some flights "may be delayed throughout the day" due to "poor visibility" and apologised to customers.
