I think around an hour and a half would give you time to absorb the beauty of the many sculptures, vegetation and other information provided there. It is truly a beautiful place that really shouldn't be rushed. Spend the time to feel the peacefulness of the sanctuary is it was intended to be.

I would think you must rent a car and meander around the area of the sanctuary as the small towns / villages are amazing. I doubt if public transit goes there but I am not from the area. The sanctuary was mind boggling but the towns were super with wonderful little shops and diners. It is not far from the outskirts of Melbourne but a good hike from the center of the city. Well worth the journey!
