I haven't ridden in years. I am 63 and only in fair condition. Would I be able to ride at your ranch. My husband is also in his 60s and hasn't ridden since his 30s either. What can you tell us about what we need to be able to do in order to go on an hour and a half ride? What is the cost? While we both are losing weight, my husband weighs about 270. Is there a weight limit?
A:
The weight limit is 220 lbs

Depending on where you are staying in Scottsdale, the Saguaro Lake Ranch Stables is about a 30 mile (40+ minute) drive. You said you are an experienced rider, but almost all trail rides here in AZ are a single file (nose to tail) slow-paced walk. For safety reasons, they typically do not allow riders to get out of the line, ride side by side, or trot. Our temperatures in March very; so if you take an early morning ride (typically 50°) you may want to dress in layers. As an owner of horses, I would recommend wearing jeans and boots (I discourage tennis shoes or shorts when riding Western). This is by far the best scenic trail ride in the Phoenix area and is very dense with many varieties of cactus. There is a place to stay that is across the road from the stables, called the "Saguaro Lake Guest Ranch". It was built in the 1930's to house the workers building the dam (next to the ranch/stables), and it is very 'rustic' … I would equate it to a Motel 6 here in the US. If you just need a room to stay for the night before you ride, and want that no-frills ranch house experience, this may work out for you.
